Edge of Nature was created in 2019 by a small group of like-minded property investors with a passion for nature. Our approach is to work in partnership with landowners and nature conservation organisations to sustain natural areas around the world.
In a perfect world, there would be no need to ‘develop’ natural areas. The inherent value of wild nature for people and society would be understood, and large natural habitats would remain intact while human development is sensitively planned in suitable locations. However, the world does not presently function like that and the pressures on natural land are increasing every day, in particular in developing nations. Economically and politically sustainable solutions are essential.

Edge of Nature recognises these challenges and instead seeks to create opportunities through innovative, commercial solutions to land ownership and development.

Our Approach

We firstly look to secure important land surrounding ‘core’ natural areas by means of purchase, lease or partnerships with landowners. We then plan and implement high quality, environmentally-friendly housing and other property development initiatives which raise capital to restore and protect natural habitat on the majority of the land.

We very carefully plan the areas of the land where buildings and other infrastructure are sited. Deep consideration is given to visual impact, wildlife movement, soil stability, water use, energy and access considerations. We work in partnership with leading landscape design and eco-construction firms to create high quality infrastructure with minimal environmental impact.

Our developments create ongoing revenues for landowners and employment opportunities for local people. This contributes to natural land being more economically sustainable and politically relevant. We also seek to generate revenues from the habitat restoration and protection process itself, in particular through payments for ecosystem services (e.g. carbon offset payments).

We are presently seeking opportunities around the world, with a particular emphasis on Europe and East / Southern Africa.
